Ice Cube received some backlash from fans after a member from Donald Trump’s campaign team revealed the rap star had been working to help the administration bolster their Platinum Plan for Black Americans. In a new interview with Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez for Hot 97, Cube further explained why he chose to advise the administration after Trump’s campaign reached out to him about his Contract with Black America.

“As we’re getting things done, we’re contacted by the Trump campaign because they said they loved our plan and they wanted to talk to us about what’s in our plan,” Cube said in the radio interview. “So, once we talked to them about our plan and what we envisioned… they upgraded their [Platinum] Plan.”

Cube also revealed his reaction after Katrina Pierson, senior advisor to the Trump campaign, announced the rapper had been working with the president on Twitter.

“To me, it’s politics,” the N.W.A. co-founder said. “Of course it’s a little shady because it was misleading, but it’s politics. I know if I did something for the Biden campaign, they would use it, too.”

“But, I was there for a bigger cause,” he added. “So, I wasn’t really concerned about that.”

Cube doubled-down that he hasn’t endorsed Trump for reelection, but said that he’s still undecided on how he’ll be voting this November.

“I haven’t endorsed Donald Trump. To me, both sides are lacking and they gotta do better,” he said. “Because, what they got down ain’t gonna solve the problem yet.”

“I’ma vote ‘cause there’s a lot of things to vote for in California,” he added. “But I’m a real, true undecided voter because they not doing enough.”

When Darden and Rosenberg asked Cube how he feels about the presence of white supremacy amid Trump’s administration, he replied, “I’m not supporting Donald Trump.”

White supremacy does turn me off, but it’s everywhere and it’s on both sides of the aisle,” he continued. “That’s just the reality that we live in and I’m not naive to that. We’re engulfed in white supremacy. So, that’s something we’re gonna have to fight our way out of.”
