This is not a drill. Earlier today (Sept. 5), Nicki Minaj made a shocking announcement that she’s retiring from music.

While posting to Twitter, Minaj didn’t provide many details other than the fact that she is ready to start a family. Towards the end of her message, the 36-year-old spitter thanks her fans for their continuous support throughout the years. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” Minaj posted to Twitter.

Granted, the Barbz were aware that the Queen rapper was looking to start a family in the near future with her beau, Kenneth Petty, but just not so soon. Last month, during an episode of Queen Radio, Minaj explained that she would get married first and then release her follow-up album to Queen.

“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later,” Minaj began. “I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married. I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.”

Following Minaj’s shocking announcement, fans shared their mixed emotions on social media. Some fans are hoping that this is a joke, after all. “Nicki minaj is the best female rapper and that’s why these newbies wanna be like her on GOD I hope she has a happy retirement she’s been carrying the female rap game for a while now it’s time for her to hang up her boots,” one fan wrote.
