Lil Nas X is taking a break.
Lil Nas X has been breaking barriers and climbing the charts this year with his breakout single “Old Town Road.” Despite the rapper’s success and impact on the music industry, he has announced that he will be taking a short break from music. “It’s been a wild last 7 months and I’m ready to take a little time off,” he said on Twitter. “Sorry to everyone attending TwitchCon or the Sandbox Music Festival, I will not be there. I love you guys and will make it up to you some way.”
Complex reports that Nas X will likely return to the stage on Oct. 17, when he performs alongside Billy Ray Cyrus at the Colosseum, Caesar’s Windsor in Ontario, Canada.
Lil Nas X has been candid about his journey to stardom. Back in July, he reflected on Twitter and explained how far he has come from sleeping on his sister’s floor to having a hit record. “Wow man last year I was sleeping on my sister’s floor, had no money, struggling to get plays on my music, suffering from daily headaches, now i’m gay,” he wrote.
He has also spoken openly on coming out. Lil Nas revealed to TIME that he was pushed by the universe to speak on his sexuality. “I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe,” he explained to the outlet. “In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands -- little stuff like that.”
Months later, Lil Nas shared how difficult it was to come out to his father, which he likened to ripping off a Band Aid. In an interview with Billboard, the “Old Town Rapper” shared the “nerve-racking” experience. “It’s something I never probably would have did if I was still living with my parents,” he said. “I have that independence to do it, you know?”
