Over the weekend, Nicki Minaj took a moment to reflect on past abusive relationships. While posting to Twitter, Minaj admitted that she is happy to have learned the true meaning of love.

To start things off, the “Megatron” spitter shared examples of mental, physical and emotional abuse. Although Minaj doesn’t directly say who she’s referring to in her past, she admits that she once thought that love had to hurt. The Queen rapper recalled a time where she was afraid to speak because it could’ve resulted in tension.

“I rlly used to think love had to hurt,” Minaj revealed. “So I could never look down on anyone else. We are merely human. It’s not easy to leave. Especially in the world of IG where all ppl want to do is post relationship goal pics for clout & attention. A man should make you feel safe, not afraid.”

She continued, “I remember being so afraid to speak cuz I never knew when that person would be in a particular mood and I could maybe say one wrong thing that would get me hit. So the diff you see in me now is that feeling when a woman feels lifted up, safe, appreciated & unconditionally loved.”

Before wrapping up her thoughts, the New York rapper encouraged the Barbz to love themselves, which is a lesson she’s learned throughout the years. Minaj reiterates that in a time of social media, bullying and more that it’s important to lift each other up.

Thankfully, Minaj is the happiest she’s ever been. She recently filed for her marriage license after months of dating her beau, Kenneth Petty. Although Minaj didn’t reveal whether or not she tied the knot, she did change her name to Mrs.Petty on Twitter, which the Barbz has taken as a hint towards her relationship status.
