Kash Doll surprised hundreds of soon-to-be parents in her hometown Detroit.

According to the Michigan Chronicle, the rapper attended the 7th Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Community Baby Shower, which was hosted by the Detroit Health Department. The event’s attendees learned about the positive effects of breastfeeding, infant mortality rates and life as new parents. The expecting parents also received cribs, diapers, information about community resources and more.

Shortly after, Kash Doll made an appearance and spoke to the expecting parents. “Knowing that a lot of women in Michigan listen to my music, I wanted to come here and give them a word so that they can birth healthy, beautiful babies,” she said. “I’m a healthy adult because my mom breastfed me and I want our babies to be healthy as well. It starts from the womb.”

She also performed her hit single “Ice Me Out.”

The Detroit rapper went on to encourage women to inform themselves about breastfeeding. “Did [you] know 1 out of 4 babies [are] dying due to not breastfeeding?” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I didn’t know either until I went to the Detroit Health [department] today to talk about it to a room full of pregnant moms! If you’re a mom who is having a hard time breastfeeding please reach out to our Detroit health department and WIC agency so we can keep our babies healthy.”

Educating soon-to-be parents on the perks of breastfeeding isn’t the only way Kash Doll has given back to her community. In December 2018, the rapper gave four Detroit residents scholarships to the Phlebotomy Express Training Center as part of her Kash Doll Christmas Giveaway initiative. According to Black Press USA, in order to enter the giveaway, participants had to submit an essay explaining why they should win the scholarship.

Four women won the scholarships, which covered the $5,100 tuition for the four week long classes at Phlebotomy Express. “I have a different connection with the girls here,” said Kash Doll. “I was a girl once in Detroit trying to figure it out and I’m in this position now to be able to help others. My heart is always about giving.”
