Dave East set the record straight after he was accused of colorism by a fan.

In a photo uploaded to Instagram today (July 4), the Harlem rapper appears to be on a rooftop alongside rapper Millyz and surrounded by women of a lighter complexion. Keeping his caption short and sweet, East wrote: “Medellin Vibes.”

Following his upload, an Instagram user asked for his thoughts on colorism. “So you don’t like black girls either?” the social media user asked. After seeing her comment, East, who is considering trying out for the NBA, clapped back. “Shut ya dumb ass up I’m in Columbia,” he responded.

Nonetheless, his response has sparked controversy with fans.

“Who even likes Dave east enough to care if he wanna take pics around black girls?! Man move,” one user wrote.

Currently, the hip-hop community is very vocal about matters concerning colorism. Chris Brown is facing backlash over his song lyric that references women with “nice hair.” A few weeks earlier, Tory Lanez was seen defending a dark-skin woman who was being replaced by a light-skin woman in one of his music videos.

Recently, Lil Duval shared his thoughts on the idea of preference. He stated that preferences have a double standard when it comes to men and women. In a post uploaded to Instagram, Duval shared a picture of an old tweet. “Seems like a good time to discuss again,” Duval wrote as the caption. “Explain my queens.”

“Why is it a woman can say she don’t like short dudes or light skin dudes and it’s ok,” Duval wrote on Twitter. “But when a man says he don’t like dark skin women or fat b—-hes he’s a f—ked up person.”
