His Humble Beginnings:
Born Jordan Timothy Jenks, Pi’erre Bourne grew up as an only child and during his youth, shifted through different areas of the Carolinas with his mom. Pi’erre’s mother was a first generation Belizean-American who served in the Belizean army. His father, who still lives in South Carolina, owned a trucking business, The FADER reports. Though the now-artist grew up in South Carolina, he would go to his grandmother’s house in Queens, New York almost every school break. In Queens, his uncle Dwight introduced him to the digital audio workstation Fruity Loops. This is when Pi’erre began tinkering with the program by making beats and exploring his rap writing skills.
In high school, the artist-in-the-making would start taking music more seriously. He even started a rap group with his friends that was called The Bourne Ones. After he graduated, Pi’erre wanted to pursue music, but his mother was adamant about him going to college and pursuing a degree. So, he enrolled at South Carolina’s Winthrop University. There, he would study graphic design. But, he dropped out one year later to pursue his true passion: music. After he dropped out, the soon-to-be rapper found himself working at Target and Walmart to make ends meet. That’s when his uncle suggested that he go to school for music engineering.
Taking his uncle Dwight’s advice, Pi’erre moved to Atlanta, Georgia to study music engineering at SAE Institute of Atlanta, where he lived out of his car; but worked his butt off to reach his dreams. Eventually, he would saved up enough money to get an apartment with a roommate. This roommate turned out to be L.A. Reid’s son, who helped him secure an engineering job at Epic Records. After he finished his course at SAE, Pi’erre spent his time perfecting his sound, and eventually became a producer and sound engineer for Young Nudy. Not too long afterward, he got a call to produce for Metro Boomin. From these experiences, the rising star’s catalog grew immensely and his career skyrocketed.
He’s More Than A Producer:
Pi’erre Bourne does it all. He’s a rapper, producer, songwriter, and audio engineer. His most popular production credits are for the singles “Magnolia” by Playboi Carti and “Gummo” by 6ix9ine — with the latter peaking at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. But, Pi’erre’s successes in production caused his own music to be overshadowed. While he was making Billboard hits, the star was releasing his songs and they wouldn’t perform very well, nor were they pushed by his label, says Pitchfork. But, this does not take away from the great quality of his music.
Pi’erre created a sound that is unique to him and his vocals pair perfectly with his own beats. He recently released an album titled The Life of Pi’erre 4. This album is a great body of work that displays his distinct style effortlessly. His album has an alluring vibe with an abundance of dope melodies, which is what made “Magnolia” so enticing.
This unique sound could be the downfall of this project to some since all the songs have a similar beat pattern and vibe. After all, if you are not a fan of Pi’erre’s, the sound of the project may appear repetitive. However, his fans love it.
