Thursday evening (May 30), Lil Durk alerted fans on social media that he would be turning himself in to authorities by week's end. Soon thereafter, reports broke that there was an arrest warrant issued in Georgia.
As reported, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that Lil Durk, real name Durk Derrick Banks, is facing five felony charges stemming from his alleged connection to a shooting incident that took place on Feb. 5 in the parking lot of a local restaurant called The Varsity.
After surrendering to police Thursday night as he intended, he was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and gang activity.
Ahead of the Chicago rapper following through on his decision to surrender to authorities, he released a loose single, "Turn Myself In." The song adamantly claims he is innocent and issues a heartfelt apology to friends and family.
"Look up at the judge, can't look / Stay making up lies, for sure / I'm a innocent man, for sure / It is what it is, for sure," he raps on the three-minute long track.
The shooting in question resulted in one person, Alexander Witherspoon, 23, suffering a critical gunshot wound. The rapper's affiliate King Von has already been detained for the shooting.
