As the city of Los Angeles prepares to celebrate the life of Nipsey Hussle on Thursday (April 11) at the Staples Center, fans are working overtime to ensure that his legacy will continue to be respected for generations to come.

Last week, a non-profit organization officially launched a petition to rename the Los Angeles intersection of Crenshaw Blvd. and Slauson Ave in honor of the late rapper, who was fatally shot outside of his Marathon clothing store on March 31.

As reported, Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson is expected to introduce legislation on Friday (April 12) to help the petition’s intention to honor Nipsey in his hometown come to fruition.

As announced on Tuesday (April 9), Harris-Dawson, who was a friend of Nipsey’s, will be moving forward with the process required to rename the intersection Ermias ‘Nipsey Hussle’ Asghedom Square.

Taking to Instagram, the lawmaker confirmed the early reports, writing, “Proud to honor #nipseyhussle by dedicating #crenshaw and #slauson as “Nipsey Hussle Square.”

Harris-Dawson previously reflected on his friendship with Nipsey, helping hold him in high esteem for his activism efforts and dedication to the community.

“It was 8 in the morning at Crenshaw High School. And here was this guy who I knew had a show the night before. He was there with his daughter,” the lawmaker recently told the New York Times, reflecting on first meeting the rapper at a rally against gun violence in 2013.

While the efforts to officially rename the intersection in honor of Nipsey are underway, fans are preparing to gather on Thursday as the rapper’s casket will be taking its final victory lap around the city. As reported, the funeral procession will be embarking on a 25-mile tour of Los Angeles after the public memorial concludes.

Following the “Celebration of Life,” the City Council is expected to adjourn its regular Friday meeting, where Harris-Dawson is expected to introduce the motion to rename the intersection. Take a look at Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson confirming his plans below.
