Congratulations are in order for Freeway. On Tuesday (Feb. 5), the rapper announced to his fans that he was undergoing surgery to receive a kidney transplant. “I’m going under now! Thanks for all the Love & support! Pray for me!!” Freeway captioned an Instagram video of himself being prepped for the medical procedure. In the clip, the 39-year-old rapper appears to be in good spirits as he makes a joke about being “allergic to haters.”

Freeway was diagnosed with kidney failure back in September 2015. The State Property emcee learned of his health condition during a routine check up with his doctor. He was rushed into emergency dialysis and updated fans on his well being just a few days later.

“Thank you All for your prayers and support! I’m doing much better!” Freeway wrote on Instagram at the time. In 2016, he opened up to REVOLT about his ongoing dialysis. “I’m feeling good, the treatments actually make me feel great,” he said.

Earlier this year, Freeway documented his road to surgery sharing a photo with one of the surgeons who would be performing his kidney transplant at a hospital in Baltimore, MD. “Good afternoon! Everyone meet Dr. Desai he’s one of the surgeons that will be doing my transplant!!” he revealed. “God is Good I’m 1 step closer to receiving a new kidney.”

Freeway’s sixth solo album, Think Free, was released in June 2018 and features 13 tracks with cameos from Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Faith Evans, Lil Uzi Vert, Fat Joe, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more. The album followed the release of his documentary of the same name which focused on the impact of kidney disease.

“This documentary is just a glimpse into my life and what I’m going through. Hopefully, it can be motivation for people and encourage y’all to go the doctors and get checked out at least once a year,” Freeway reportedly told the audience before the screening of the film.

We wish the Philadelphia native a successful recovery!
