After being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Sunday (Feb. 3), 21 Savage’s birth certificate has reportedly surfaced.

The 26-year-old’s uncovered birth certificate reveals he was born to British parents, Heather Joseph and Kevin Emmon, in London, where he lived for 12 years before relocating to Atlanta with his mother. The birth certificate, which was uncovered by the Daily Mail UK, shows the rapper was born Shéyaa bin Abraham at East London’s Newham Hospital on October 22, 1992.

In the aftermath of the new breaking that 21 Savage had been detained by ICE, it was widely reported that he had lived in Dominica prior to being taken to Atlanta as a pre-teen. The birth certificate disproves said claim.

Over the weekend, the Grammy Award-nominated rapper was detained in Atlanta by ICE, who claim he is “an unlawfully present United Kingdom national” who first arrived to the states on a visa that allegedly expired in 2006. ICE also issued a statement that the rapper’s “whole public persona is false.”

It has also been revealed that 21 has twin sisters, Kyra and Jayda, who still live in the UK and have since vocalized their support of their brother. The latter of which tweeted, “But Shaayaa moved to America when he was mad young, so he basically is American, he grew up there. I’m bare confused as to how they’re trying to deport him though… He’s been comfortable this whole time, even when he was gangbanging and s–t. This smells fishy.” The pair has also since deleted any childhood photos with their brother from social media in hopes to protect him from being deported.

As the situation develops, celebrities such as Cardi B, Wale, Meek Mill and Offset, among countless others, have taken to social media to vocalize their support of the rapper as well.

At the time of this report, 21 is being held in federal immigration custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings. An immigration judge will determine next steps.
