As one of the music industry's most revered creators, Erykah Badu only keeps the best company. So when it was time to turn up for her 47th birthday, she brought some of the greats to celebrate with her - including hip-hop legend Yasiin Bey.
"You can tell a lot about what a person or artist has to offer by the type of people that they attract, or that they bring out to be in their presence. If that's any testament, Erykah Badu is really something special," Bey said.
For Badu's birthday, she put on a concert at Bomb Factory in Dallas. The star-studded roster of performers and guests included Yasiin Bey, Dave Chappelle, Anderson .Paak, DRAM, Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Michael Blackson, and others.
"I'm just honored to be here, not only to say I'm a fan and admirer of what she does with her work, but also to be her friend," Bey added.
Yasiin Bey also said that he has had an "amazing 30 days," traveling around the world to spend time with the likes of Chappelle, Steve McQueen, Virgil Abloh, Naomi Campbell, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky and more.
Just recently, Yasiin Bey made news by announcing that he and Talib Kweli were reuniting for a Black Star album with production by Madlib. If released, the project will be the first full body of work by the duo since their debut Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, which was released 20 years ago in August 1998.
Badu is scheduled to perform at the 2018 Soundset festival on May 27.
