Fat Joe and N.O.R.E. weigh in on JAY-Z’s big Grammys snub on 'Drink Champs'

The two rap legends both felt that the Grammys disrespected JAY-Z and used him for ratings.

It was Fat Joe and N.O.R.E.'s best friend Big Pun who rapped about bringing home the Grammys after he lost in the category Of Best Rap Album in 1999. Ironically, it was JAY-Z whose album Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life bested Pun's Capital Punishment, Life in 1472 by Jermaine Dupri, and A Tribe Called Quest's The Love Movement.

Joe is the guest on this week's episode of Drink Champs, and during the taping, he and N.O.R.E. lamented about the big Hov snub during the 60th Grammy Awards a couple of weeks back. The legendary MC was up for eight awards and didn't get one win.

"Whenever you're doing your own podcasts, that's your own fucking audience," N.O.R.E. began to rationalize. "That's why 4:44 didn't win anything on the Grammys, because they couldn't let that black man have that power of saying 'I can drop an album on my own audience and win Grammys.' This is how I look at it. I feel Hov should have won four out of eight."

"At least two," Joe chimed in. "I'da bet he'd win two at least. Grammys, beautiful event. They don't care. Still don't care. Hip-hop music is the number one selling or most streamed music in the entire game. That's why the Grammys had to pay attention to it this year.

"They had all the hip-hop there so they could get the ratings. They nominate JAY-Z and give the award to Bruno Mars, who's the whitest black nigga on the Grammy stage. We love Bruno Mars, but for a fact, he's the whitest Black nigga up there. It's a fact. ... They like, 'we gotta give to somebody, let's give it to the nice guy.'"

Joe added that he enjoys the events during Grammys week, as opposed rather than the actual Grammys ceremony itself.

"I love the brunches ... I love dressing up," The Terror Squad Don continued. "My thing is besides that, when I think about the Grammys—and I'm honored to be nominated for seven Grammys—but I always think about Chuck D. 'Who gives a fuck about a gotdamn Grammy.' Chuck D was the smartest nigga in hip hop."

Joe talks more about his relationship with JAY-Z, his smoking new single "Pick It Up," and how Daddy Yankee disappointed him all on "Drink Champs." You can catch the show tonight (Thursday, Feb. 8) at 10 p.m. on Revolt TV.
