Kid Cudi announces new solo album for 2019, teases he has some "tasty features" on the way

The rapper sits down with GQ to talk about his return to music and the spotlight.

After taking a hiatus from the spotlight to focus on bettering his mental health, Kid Cudi is checking in with fans. Taking to Twitter (Oct. 23), the Cleveland native shared the exciting news that he has just begun working on a solo album.

When asked by a fan on Twitter if he'll be working on new solo music, the rapper responded, "I just started the new album!Taking my time w it tho but im thinkin next year sometime? Would that be cool? Huh? Tell me? Would that be ok?"

He then follows up with a second teaser, revealing that while he works on his next solo offering, he has some "tasty features comin out soon in the meantime."

In addition to taking some time to answer questions from fans via Twitter, Cudi was also profiled by GQ Magazine, during which he offers an update on how he's feeling. In October 2016, the G.O.O.D Music recording artist checked himself into a rehab facility after revealing to fans he had been struggling with bouts of depression and experiencing suicidal thoughts.

"I was thinking of ways to do it. It scared me straight," he shared with journalist Mark Anthony Green. "What scared me was that my mind was willing to go there. After all these years. I'm not battling any demons right now. Thank God."

Elsewhere throughout the profile, the one-time XXL Freshman talked about working with Kanye West on their collaborative Kids See Ghosts album, explaining how they agreed on the inspiration from the beginning.

"I chose to write the light," Cudi explained. "Me and Kanye both agreed that we wanted to create a spiritual album. I know kids are used to hearing me talk about darkness, but I'm living in the light now."

He also shared some insight into his fear Pharrell won't work with him again, confessing that the songs may have missed the mark.

"I don't know if Pharrell will work with me again, because those songs didn't do what they were supposed to do," he said, speaking of his 2016 album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin', which featured production from Skateboard P. "The label didn't do the right thing."

The in-depth feature also reveals he's in the process of creating a show with Jordan Peele and has a crush on Kendall Jenner, as well as shares an update about Cudi's journey as a father.
