Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter this weekend to share what may be considered quite the unpopular opinion.

During a series of posts, which have since been deleted but immortalized (because Internet), the Chicago rapper explains that he doesn’t find Kendrick Lamar to be a “top tier lyricist.”

The controversial debate arrives in response to a fan asking a question if Lupe thought that Logic was a better lyricist than Kung Fu Kenny, to which Lupe wrote, “I’ll put it to you like this. K. Dot is not a top tier lyricist to me and my standards when it comes to punchlines and bars. His overall lyrics are good, his stories phenomenal, but punchline entendre lyrically I don’t see it.”

From there, another fan responded, questioning Lupe’s abilities as a lyricist himself, a comment that the rapper couldn’t let slide by unaddressed.

“I’ve never been destroyed,” Lupe wrote in response. “Also the only issue that the world thinks I have with K. Dot and I actually do is that I think his ‘Control’ verse was wack and super overhyped to be a verse claiming you are the best rapper. It was very weird. I was told it was just bait, but still.”

Previously, on Jan. 5, Lupe pointed out that the cover art for Lamar’s new collaboration with SZA, “All the Stars,” is “too close for comfort” when compared to his Drogas Light album cover.

K. Dot has not addressed any of the recent remarks, instead leaving his loyal supports to blow up Lupe’s mentions.
