Oscar De La Hoya visits 'The Breakfast Club'

The boxing legend speaks on the Canelo Álvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor fights, and wanting to box Donald Trump.

Professional boxing’s next big showdown is scheduled to happen September 16th, when Gennady Golovkin faces off against Canelo Álvarez in a championship fight. To promote the upcoming match up of the titans, former world champion boxer and founder of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya stopped by The Breakfast Club.

Even though his Golden Boy Promotions represents Álvarez, De La Hoya wouldn't project a winner for the match. He did, however, guarantee that the highly-anticipated bout would deliver a “real fight,” before comparing the upcoming battle to the spectacle that was Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor.

The full interview can be viewed above.

Before admitting that the over-hyped fight between Mayweather and McGregor wouldn't have a lasting negative impact on the sport of boxing as a whole, De La Hoya did state that the match was a “disrespect to boxing.” “Boxing is old school. Boxing is where you have two guys who are not going to carry each other to the 10th round,” he said as he took a subtle jab at Mayweather. The hall of famer accused Money Mayweather, who he calls “one of the best that’s laced up the gloves,” of placing bets on himself to win in the 10th round of the heavily promoted fight.

Elsewhere during the entertaining interview, De La Hoya spoke on the current state of boxing, what inspired him to launch Golden Boy Promotions and President Donald Trump. When asked about his thoughts on the pres and his policies, the boxing great was quick to express his disapproval with the former reality tv star. Trump’s disapproval rating with the former champ is so high that it could even force him out of retirement. “If I were to make a comeback, I’d call him out,” De La Hoya joked before confirming that in the match up with Trump, he’d “knock his ass out.”
