Report: XXXTentacion allegedly steals artist's work for merch

The artist has come forward detailing their conversation and his lack of compensation.

On the heels of nabbing the No.2 album in the country (and receiving a major nod from Kendrick Lamar), XXXTentacion has just made headlines for a different reason.

According to SPIN, a visual artist is alleging that XXX used one of the artist's works on a piece of the rapper's merchandise but failed to compensate him properly.

The artist, who goes by @WeHadNoIdea on Instagram, claims he "posted an image of a digital, oil-pastel style portrait" of XXX to the social platform in May. According to a provided screenshot, the rapper commented on the image himself, saying "THIS HARD."

According to @WeHadNoIdea, he then later discovered that a hoodie with similar artwork was being sold by on a site named Revenge which SPIN reports sells merch for the rapper. SPIN says that the site is now password-protected, but another provided screenshot shows the hoodie in question.

Equipped with screenshots, @WeHadNoIdea claims that, in June, he the artist thanked XXX for using his work, but asked for "some compensation or some credit," or a "way to work with you and your creative team." XXX seemingly responded with a smiley-faced emoji and heart and asked in return, "How would you like me to compensate you?"

According to a screenshot, Revenge also seems to have contacted the artist on Instagram, writing, "[XXX] asked you if we can use the design smh. Why u trippin now[?]"

But in the conversation the artist maintains that he wants credit and only told the rapper (or his camp) that "if you ever need art let me know!"

In August, the artist continued to comment on Instagram Stories from the rapper, who allegedly responded: "Don't ever wonder why you won't get any help. Hope the universe blesses you. Take care of yourself."

According to SPIN, the artist is planning on taking legal action.
