Over two years ago, Azealia Banks took to Twitter to set her crosshairs on Nicki Minaj, among others, and slam her “whack” contributions to muisic.

She wrote then, “It’s so funny to wake up and see nicki and Miley or nicki and taylor fighting when you ALL make basic ass music. it’s a ki !!! All of y’all bitches are whack and make boring music and rip all ur styles off the downtown NYC girls.”

However, it seems she has since changed her tune.

Last night, on Instagram, the rapper shared screenshots of a private conversation she initiated with Minaj in which she apologized to and complimented the fellow MC’s mind, artistry, and accolades. She credited the newfound respect with working with Minaj’s ex-boyfriend Safaree, and touched on her personal growth and industry pressures. She wrote:

“Hey, I’m not sure if you will see this but I want to apologize for whatever catty shit I’ve said to and or about you in the past. I really do enjoy your artistry and think you’re so intelligent and clever. You have a really brilliant art mind and often times remind me a lot of myself. Now that I’m growing up I’m realizing a lot about what it means to be a strong woman and you’ve showed nothing but strength and perseverance from day one. You deserve the Grammy, you deserve a rich Russian billionaire to sweep you off your feet so you never have to consort with these dingy niggas in hip-hop again. Me working with Safaree was not in spite, but because of the neverending pressure the industry puts on us rap girls to be A+. I love your work and only assumes he played a role in your success but after meeting Safaree (who loves you to death) and watching his process I grew to respect you even more. You have my word. That from here on out, I will never say any negative or catty things about you ever again. Inside of all us there’s a little black girl who cries and the last thing I want to see is that little black girl cry. Much much love and success.”

Minaj responded less verbosely, simply replying: “You’re very talented & very smart. Focus on what really matters from now on.”

Progress!
