Andre Harrell discusses 2017 REVOLT Music Conference with The Breakfast Club

The Revolt Music Conference chairman talks RMC 2017, honoring Queen Latifah, and King Combs.

Last month, it was announced that the REVOLT Music Conference was ready for another Miami takeover. Now in its fourth year, the four-day conference will bring together some of music's most impactful power players and a peek at who's next in entertainment. Also, scheduled for this year's event is the awarding of the REVOLT Icon Award - which has only been bestowed upon an esteemed group of music industry icons such as Antonio "L.A." Reid, Nas and Jimmy Iovine - and, this year, to the legendary Queen Latifiah. Andre Harrell, REVOLT Vice Chairman and Chair of the REVOLT Music Conference sat with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne the God to talk RMC 2017, honoring the Queen and King Combs.

“I think Latifah is beloved in the black community. She's beloved in Hollywood. She's beloved by women of all colors,” said Harrell of Latifiah, who he calls "the complete artistic hero." One of the founding mothers of modern hip hop, the Queen embodies the concept of an icon. Her decades-spanning career, which covers music, television and film, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, will also be celebrated with a performance by another iconic figure in hip hop, Ms. Lauryn Hill, as well as R&B’s current “it girl,” SZA.

Other RMC highlights worth looking forward to are the REVOLT Film Festival, the Be Heard talent show and high-octane performances from likes of French Montana and 21 Savage. Be Heard is slated to be judged by producers, A&Rs and other industry insiders, while the REVOLT Film Festival will see a panel that includes directors such as Allan Hughes (The Defiant Ones, Menace II Society) and Benny Boom (Next Day Air and All Eyez on Me) offering their advice to emerging directors.

One performer Harrell is especially excited for RMC attendees to witness live is King Combs. “I saw him a year ago perform and he was hitting the back of the stage,” recollected the legendary record business executive. “He didn't even work his way to the front. He was moving and grooving so far in the back that he made your eye go from the star of the show to follow him.”

The fourth annual REVOLT Music Conference (RMC) will take place from Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15th. Tickets are currently available for purchase at Join the #REVOLTMusicConference conversation on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter @REVOLTtv.
