Kendrick Lamar joins Future on "Mask Off (Remix)"

Kung Fu Kenny exchanges his mask for a halo.

Asmar Bouie // REVOLT

With “DNA” and “LOYALTY” still in heavy rotation on our playlists, Kendrick Lamar hesitates not once to grace us with a new verse, this time over Future’s head-banging “Mask Off.” Released in February as part of Future’s self-titled fifth album, the new, K. Dot-assisted, remix follows the pair’s stage collaboration during Lamar’s headlining set at this year’s Coachella.

The performance, which left fans watering at the mouth for some heat sure enough to make the summer chill have certainly gotten their wishes.

While the remix finds Mr. Hendrix up to his regular activities, Lamar’s verse plays like a lost passage from his audio bible DAMN., or at the very least written in the aftermath of its success. Lamar has his sight set on the level of God, but still finds he is bound to the mortal throws of this life. He recognizes that he’s created a very different lane for himself with his success, and even questions how he’s made it this far (“how y’all let a conscious n---a go commercial?”)

The official remix for “Mask Off” is currently available online and you can check it out below:
