John Legend to become first recipient of new social justice award

Major moves.

Last week, John Legend was honored by TIME for his social activism. (It was on that gala's red carpet that the singer famously took Donald Trump to task.) Now, Legend is being recognized again for his commitment to social change.

The singer will be the first recipient of the Salem Advocate for Social Justice Award, according to Billboard. The award is for those who champion social justice issues and advocate for people who are underrepresented.

In the past, Legend has penned a letter to President Obama on behalf of non-violent drug offenders, and received applause from Harry Belafonte for the "depth of his commitment."

Legend will accept the honor Tuesday (May 2) on a Massachusetts college campus, and is expected to perform while also discussing his work on criminal justice, education and other issues.
