Jay Z to produce docuseries and film about Trayvon Martin

The rapper and Weinstein Co. won a bidding war to the rights of Martin's story.

After producing Time: The Kalief Browder Story and signing on to do the same for a film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In The Heights" play, Jay Z and the Weinstein Company have picked up another project.

The collaborative team is planning on developing both film and television projects about Trayvon Martin.

According to Variety, a six-part docu-series about Martin's shooting is the works, as well as a narrative feature film, after the partners won a heated bidding war for the rights to two books: “Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin,” a memoir written by Martin's parents, and “Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It” by NBC reporter Lisa Bloom.
