Swizz Beatz recalls making Kanye's "Famous" beat, 40 more, and its backlash

The super-producer gets candid about the infamous track.

Swizz Beatz says he had a ball in the lab working on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo LP. The two spent a couple of days together in the studio where Swizz churned out dozens of beats. Of course, the Grammy-nominated "Famous" spawned from their work.

As popular as "Famous" was with the fans as it was on the way to becoming a standout cut on Pablo, the song and video became infamous because of the backlash it received.

"I did 40 beats in that session," Swizz told hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN while a guest on Drink Champs. "I did a lot of songs on that album. Shout out to Havoc; he laid the drum vibes [on 'Famous']. He was a big part of that. I filled in the icing. That shit was already fresh. Kanye wanted me to do my vocals, a couple of other sounds, we made 'Famous.' We was already famous."

As for any criticism of the video where Kanye featured nude lookalikes of of celebrities including presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Bill Cosby, Caitlyn Jenner, Ray J, and Amber Rose, Swizz laughed it off.

"Them people were naked any f--kin' way. He made them look good," Swizz retorted.

Regarding Taylor Swift taking umbrage with Kanye's proclamation that he made her "famous," Swizz chalks it up to creative license.

"I didn't really go into this thinking about any artist," Swizz said. "I went into this because I got an invite from my brother 'Ye and he wanted to be creative. And we spent more than 48 hours in the studio with no sleep doing everything we thought was good. Whatever he kept, I was good with it. I respected every part of that craft."

Ironically, despite their friendship and stellar working relationship, Kanye has yet to hook Swizzy up with a complementary pair of the popular Yeezy Air Boost sneaker.

"I don't even get Yeezys for free," the Ruff Ryder family member said. "My son is really into this fashion shit. I paid like $1,500 for a pair of sneakers. I was like, 'I'ma support [Kanye]."
