Kodak Black drops 12-minute freestyle (and it’s nothing like Black Thought’s)

To each their own.

Lucas Farrar // REVOLT

Last week, Black Thought made hip-hop history when he blessed the culture with what arguably is one of the most notable, if not the best, freestyles in recent memory.

While the Roots' co-founder riled up the rap community in the best way possible, it was only a matter of time until other artists looking to get their bars up stepped up to the plate in response. Enter Kodak Black.

Kodak attempts to prove his lyrical skills are better than JAY Z's.

While he didn't specify if he was inspired by Black Thought's impressive freestyle specifically, Kodak Black has decided to try his hand at the art of off-the-top rhyming, sharing a video of his own spin on a lengthy freestyle on YouTube.

Kodak Black is not necessarily known as a lyrical rapper, but perhaps he's trying to switch it up on 'em, especially considering the seemingly neverending debate regarding the differences between mumble rap and new-age rappers compared to those from the older generation who helped pave the way. Either way, his "Project Baby" freestyle has certainly got the Internet abuzz.

As noted by fans in the comments section, the freestyle gets off to a bit of a rough start but Kodak has some redeeming moments throughout the recording's duration. One fan even noted, "He can't freestyle but anything he says sounds lit."

In related news, Kodak prefaced his freestyle with quite the confidence, just last week asserting that his lyrics are "realer" than JAY-Z's. Regardless of whether this freestyle does it for you or not, one has to give him props for doing his thing.
