Pharrell confirms new song for Louis XIII that won’t be released until 2117

Talk about a future-forward initiative with an important message.

Pharrell is no stranger to the art of the creative collaboration, with the producer mastermind often testing his artistry with unique partnerships.

Most recently, the N.E.R.D. member has teamed up with renowned cognac company Louis XIII to create an exclusive song that will be released in exactly one century's time.

As reported, the new song was recorded as part of an initiative the spirits brand recently introduced where new works of art are created with the intention of being revealed 100 years later. The first in the series was a film that was created by John Malkovich and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Pharrell's track, aptly titled "100 Years - The Song We'll Only Hear If We Care," was released at a special exclusive event with one-hundred lucky people in attendance being afforded the literal once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear the song. The track is dedicated to the environment, with the music and fashion mogul urging others to help him in the fight to raise awareness for climate change.

"I love the fact that Louis XIII thinks a century ahead," Pharrell said, speaking on his latest creation in a statement. "We should all do the same for the planet. We have a common interest in preserving nature for the future. Each bottle is the life achievement of generations of men and women. It's all about legacy and transmission."

The song, which was engraved on a clay record made from Cognac's soil, was placed in a state-of-the-art container that can only be destroyed if it is submerged in water. If contact with H2O is made, it is a sign that both the globe has been catastrophically damaged and the song will remain unheard by the masses. Should the future generations address the issues plaguing the environment, the safe will be automatically unlocked in 2117.

Take a look at a video documenting Pharrell's creative process and Louis XIII's mission behind the initiative below.
