The city of Philadelphia recently showed love to some of its finest (and most legendary) talent, adding new plaques to its Music Walk of Fame.
As reported, this year, Patti LaBelle and her Labelle group members Sarah Dash and Nona Hendyrx, Jill Scott, Sister Sledge, McFadden & Whitehead, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the Soul Survivors were honored, with each receiving their own commemorative plaque in the landmark walk.
"I feel blessed, honored and happy that the three of us were honored today," LaBelle shared with a local radio station. "Because we have been together for so many years, and for Philadelphia to honor us, it's a blessing. Because Philadelphia doesn't love everybody. Thank God they love us."
The walk includes plaques from past honorees ranging from the likes of Billie Holiday, Frankie Avalon, the Roots, Hall and Oates, and more.
During the annual event, Jill Scott also spoke about her love for Philadelphia, touching on how she feels the city has a special, nonimitable influence over its artists.
"So many artists come here to get whatever this goodness is," Scott commented. "And you can't buy it, you can't bottle it, what it is is a certain kind of magic that cannot die. I believe it's just in the water."
Congrats to this year's honorees!
