Metro Boomin' and more warn producers to stray from APG label "vultures"

Halsey, Mike WiLL Made-It, and more back up the hitmaker's claims against Atlantic Records' Mike Caren-ran APG division.

If young Metro don't trust you, well, you should know the outcome by now.

On Wednesday (October 18), the leading hip-hop producer of 2017 dug into the Artist Publishing Group division of Atlantic Records, warning burgeoning producers interested in signing to a major label, to not fall victim.

"PSA to producers everywhere, don't let @AtlanticRecords steal your soul," the producer tweeted out early Wednesday morning after a PSA to Atlanta producers hit the web. In a flurry of tweets, Metro fired off on the APG division of Atlantic, specifically its head exec Mike Caren. "What I said about Atlantic was directed at Mike Caren and the APG division who deals directly with producers and songwriters," said the hitmaker. "It is just so demeaning to take advantage of hungry artists/producers/writers who put their whole life into their music just 4 u to rob them." Metro later received supportive feedback from Mike WiLL Made-It, Joe Budden, London On Da Track, and singer Halsey as he compared the APG division as "vultures."

"That's all they want to do," London On Da Track wrote in response to Metro's tweet. Meanwhile, Mike WiLL shared similar sentiments as he recalled a meeting that occurred five years ago. "Caron looked 2012 Mike Will in the eyes after hearing my whole catalog and said you don't have ANY hits but we can help u wit that," Mike WiLL Made-It tweeted.

"DAMN. This is exactly who I wrote 'Hold Me Down' about! 'Sold my soul to a 3 piece' SPEAK! PROTECT UR ART," Halsey wrote later that evening.

Mike Caren's label boasts a roster that includes Kevin Gates, Charlie Puth, and Kehlani.

Metro Boomin's comments are similar to Sonny Digital's sentiments. Earlier this year, he issued a PSA that focused on producers receiving their full just due and announced plans to launch a union.
