Our last, lasting impression of the mighty music maven known as CeeLo Green was the eclectic Grammy winner laying face down on a recording studio floor after a cell phone exploded in his face. Media wrote stories, fans were scared and the multi-talented Atlanta native had to take to social media to assuage the fear and let everyone know he was alive and well. The “security footage” of Cee’s cell phone blow up was indeed part of some theatrics that would later be revealed he said.
“Truthfully, I’m really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today,” he explained in a video message. “Actually what you saw today was a clip from a smaller video that we were shooting for a new project that I’m doing called Gnarly Davidson. It’s supposed to set up and introduce the new character identity. I’m still going to release the music, but first and foremost to everybody that love me and care about me, I just wanted to let you know that I’m OK…”
Exclusive | CeeLo births alter-ego “Gnarly Davidson” post-cell phone explosion
Well, REVOLT has obtained some of exclusive footage what exactly is next. In a teaser sent to us yesterday, we see the footage of CeeLo and his cell, and then it leads to another phase. New footage with ominous music playing in the background, showing the birth of a brand new alter ego, “Gnarly Davidson.” Gnarly has blue electric sparks coming from his hands and when he opens his mouth, there is visible blue light. There definitely is something freaky and fun coming. CeeLo as we know him is going away for a while and a new, wilder, soul is literally stepping in his shoes with a aim to go even higher.
This morning Gnarly Davidson himself corresponded with us (he doesn’t physically talk yet, but you’ll hear his words in his music) via email. Here he describes his “love/hate” relationship with “adversary” CeeLo, what he plans to bring to the music landscape and the Gnarlster even speaks on America’s current Trump fueled political climate.
SR: I understand that as of right now, you only physically speak through your music. When can we look forward to hearing your first words?
GD: I think out loud instead because I’m more interested in what YOU think about it. If two are thinking alike then someone isn’t thinking AGREED? I thought so. It’s ironic… don’t you think?
Gnarly Davidson is quite the rad name, how did you come up with it? What is the meaning behind it?
Awh you noticed? I like you. It means if you must know I’m a lone rider on a road to perdition. Google that big ol word chile.
Oh I’m quite clear. I know words like “indubitably” too. That’s word to T.I. and Nore. OK, describe your relationship with Cee-Lo. How did you two come into contact?
I love to hate him! He has a power but he’s a passive so I’m here to compel some action out of his tiny little mind. Seriously the guy needs a worthy adversary. He’s far too comfortable with no competition.
Last month, footage surfaced of Cee-Lo having literally a close call, when a cell phone exploded while he held it to his head during a conversation. At first we thought it was an accident, but according my sources, the authorities are now suspecting foul play. Where were you when Lo’s accident took place?
[Laughs] Yes I recall that, it was a blast. He had the nerve to call me crazy… How? He’s the one that was on a phone talking to himself.
Electric pulses coming from your hands, blue hues of light being emitted from your mouth and your head being uncovered. Explain what’s going on in the video you sent?
If you were me and you obviously aren’t, would you feel any need whatsoever to explain anything? I thought not.
Your friend Cee-Lo is known for making countless classic contributions in genres from hip-hop, pop, soul, even funk. Describe the Gnarly Davidson sonic sound. What are you bringing to the masses from a lyrical standpoint as well?
I can do absolutely anything I please. I’m better than anyone you’ve ever thought was the best.
Your music is coming right at a time when there is unrest in the nation. The country is divided in the Aftermath of Trump becoming President. What is your assessment of his first weekend on the job and what is your outlook on him the next four years? How will your music reflect it?
Why have opinions about opinions? America is an animal that eats it’s young So I represent the primal nature of mankind. Arousing the essential appetite to survive win lose or draw. I’m a carnivore not a politician.
Who are your musical and fashion influences?
I’m a fan or fearlessness. Anyone who dares to be their whole self on purpose is stylish.
What are your interest outside of music?
The world is a stage and baby I’m a star.
