Besides a collaborative album with Drake, Kanye West is prepping a separate joint album with his Chicago comrade Chance the Rapper.
We first learned of this project back in May, when Chance appeared on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio program and discussed working with Kanye for a joint album called Good Ass Job — yes, the title originally intended for the follow-up to 2007's Graduation.
Now in a recent interview with LA’s Power 106, Chance the Rapper gave a status update on the collab album, revealing "It’s definitely far from done."
"It's something that gets brought up in conversation every once in a while," he assured. He then elaborated on the specifics and origin behind the album. "The Good Ass Job [title], that's something that's just been a dream for me. I'm a Chicago kid, so I'm a super 'Ye fan, and I used to watch all the, you know, YouTube videos and, like, him speaking. I remember just watching a video a long time ago where he would go on, he was explaining how you have your College Dropout, and then you go back, you have your Late Registration, and then you finally get your Graduation. And after you graduate, you gotta go get a Good Ass Job. So, that was a thing in my head forever," he shared.
The comments sure plucks a heartstring for fans, who have been waiting for the said Kanye release for over six years now. Chance, who can clearly relate to the frustration from fans behind the postponement, added, "If you’re a Ye fan, you know he went on 808s & Heartbreak and then you’re like, "OK, Good Ass Job will be next," and then he does Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne. And all of those things are albums that shaped my life, but I just, I cannot wait to really just bunker down."
While more work has to be done before the album ever nears completion, the "No Problem" rapper assured fans that he and Ye have about two songs down for the album. Before a Good Ass Job album arrives, there's a G.O.O.D. chance that West's collaborative project with Drake will land first. In an interview with Vogue earlier this month, Kanye, who has long expressed his desire to team with Drake for a full-length album, confirmed that the album, stating: "We're working on an album, so there's some exciting things coming up soon."
