We’ve seen this before. A band or artist — oft a mysterious one — deletes their social media and presses reset right before the launch of a new album. But in the case of the Gorillaz, an animated band led by Blur’s Damon Albarn, a group that never was on social media suddenly embraces it. Gorillaz joined Instagram on Tuesday, giving credence to the theory that a new album might finally be on the way.

Who Are The Gorillaz?

The group’s last album was 2010’s Plastic Beach, but they’ve teased a new album ever since. Now it looks like they might be making good on the promises. Their Instagram is a visual chronology of their 16-year history, and we assume the next chapter will be coming soon.

In July, Albarn told BBC Radio 6 Music, “Later in the year we’ll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together.”

Of the long-rumored album, he said he was “loving it and it’s getting there. It should be ready fairly soon.”
