NYFW S/S17: Sammy B Review

Inspired by the designer's heritage and New York's melting pot culture, this collection embodies the aura of Kingston, Jamaica with the pace of NYC.

There is something magical about the designs created from the beautiful mind of Sammy B. A Project Runway alum, Samantha Black started her company with a few bodysuit designs that screamed personality. Not too long after she continued in that vein, staying true to the brand image she created.

NYFW S/S17 Weekend Recap

Each collection has become progressively more irresistible as we have watched her grow, but the embellishments are where this Black Girl's Magic lies. Setting the stage at sunset, the falling night sky illuminated this collection.

Sammy stays on trend despite her sometimes outlandish interpretation. This season we've seen lots of color, pinstripes, fishnet, and sequins the size of seashells, which we're sure is intentional. The glam she choose for these models is true to the culture with bantu knots everywhere and the popular use of fur slides as well as chokers. While being trendy doesn't come off original, Sammy inserts herself in each design with bias cuts and a mixture of different textiles. We can definitely see this collection in many of our favorite stores in 2017.
