BANKS' new "F—k With Myself" video is both eerie & self-empowering

Last month, BANKS announced that the follow-up to her 2014 album Goddess was finally "f—king done." And now we have a video to hold us over with excitement until then. Or fear. It's actually more likely fear because the visuals for her new song "F—k With Myself" are, to use a phrase that BANKS seems to like a lot, very f—king eerie.

Set in a dark shipping container scattered with crates, dancers move like glitchy, malfunctioning contortionists around BANKS while she alternates between sitting naked in front of a cracked mirror and playing with the head of a mannequin that looks a hell of a lot like her. She strokes, licks, chokes, smacks, suffocates, smears lipstick on, and sets ablaze the bust, which is surprising considering how happy she sounds with herself on the lyrics that come off like a smug sendoff to an ex:

"You're in the corner waiting for my love/ I put two walls behind you just to lean on/ Kinda need 'em cause I stood you up/ 'Cause I f—k with myself more than anybody else."

Creepiness aside, the more she repeats the titular phrase, the more you realize how self-empowering the track is. And that was pretty much BANKS' point; she said in a press release:

"This song is about being your own best friend, your own mother, and your own lover."

It's definitely NSFW and the visuals are darker than we've seen the dark-pop/alt-&-B singer go before but, if anything, now we're even more interested in hearing what her sophomore effort (due September 30) has to offer.
