Alessia Cara's powerful "Scars to Your Beautiful" video is all about self-love

JoJo makes a cameo, too.

Despite it being Alessia Cara's 20th birthday, the singer is using today to give instead of receive. Her new video for "Scars to Your Beautiful" offers viewers words of encouragement, empowerment and inspiration through not only the song's lyrics, but through a diverse multitude of featured guests.

From cancer survivors and transgender people to those who simply felt they were not beautiful in a conventional or socially acceptably sense, the clip shares excerpts of intimate interviews as the subjects divulge details about their respective self-love journeys. Ultimately, the subjects put their scars, both visible and not, on display.

JoJo makes a cameo, too: "A lot of people aren’t afraid to give their opinions whether they’re hurtful or not."

The end of the clip drives Cara's point home with a message that reads: "Often times, the world both directly and indirectly tells us that we shouldn't be happy with ourselves if we don't fit certain beauty standards. 'Scars to Your Beautiful' is a reminder that beauty isn't only one look, shape, size, or colour. It isn't even always tangible. It comes in an endless amount of forms and we need to recognize that."
