The Billboard Music Awards may have left a lot to be desired, in terms of honoring Prince. Madonna led the charge and despite Stevie Wonder's best efforts to save things, fans weren't particularly thrilled. And BET loaded up, taking a huge shot on Twitter.
Well, the network announced today (June 7) on Prince's birthday that D'Angelo, Janelle Monáe, The Roots and Prince protégé would headline their tribute to the Purple One at this year's BET Awards, which take place June 26th in Los Angeles.
D'Angelo has already honored Prince with a moving TV performance of "Sometimes It Snows In April" and The Roots' drummer Questlove has long been a fan and collaborator of the late icon. With Monáe, who Prince himself was a fan of, and Sheila E. involved, the expectations are high. Everyone will be watching and at the ready with a take.
