On The Scene At The 2016 X Games In Austin

From Blink 182's reunion to Jacko Strong tenacity, what a time to be in Texas.

The dust has finally settled (literally) and the 2016 Austin X Games are officially in the books. What opened up as a somber weekend for extreme sports fans due to the loss of Dave Mirra ended up as enlightening experience with a mass awareness being spread regarding depression and the concussion-related degenerative brain disease CTE. Mirra, an absolute pillar in the sport, unfortunately took his own life at the young age of 41 and is loved and remembered by many. Rest in peace to the BMX legend.

Heavy as the heart may have been, the event was incredible yet again.

Here are three highlights:

BLINK BACK

The return of Blink! Nothing beats a '90s band getting back together to remind you of your age. Legendary rockers Blink-182 chose the Austin X Games as the platform to make their return, release some new music and announce an upcoming album. Blink headlined a lineup comprised of rappers Logic amd G Eazy alongside band and tour mates All Time Low.

STRONG...FOR REAL

Aussie Jacko Strong who REVOLT caught up with during the games was an absolute beast. Strong competed in multiple events during the games, but his biggest highlight came after being transported via helicopter to the hospital after he slammed his neck in the Moto X QuarterPipe comp. Strong not only returned to the competition but also busted out a front flip to take gold in the Best Trick competition. Just crazy.

WELCOME TO TEXAS

The next location for the summer X Games has yet to be announced. The elements bummed out a lot of the athletes competing at the Austin games. The weather went from burning hot to heavy rain to powerful wind at the drop of a dime, which caused for a few major events like Big Air to be cancelled. Naturally the most popular option would be to return to LA, but stay tuned.

The 2016 X Games will bid farewell to its host city of Austin after three good years of shredding and we can say, job well done.
