As the spring temps turn to summer warmth, the need for a breezy seasonal soundtrack is at an all-time high. With that considered, look no further than Kent Jones and his infectious track "Don’t Mind."
Bubbling for a minute, the song is now rising toward mainstream attention as it recently scored a Top 10 entry on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and No. 25 peak on the Hot 100. Interpolating Barry White’s “Practice What You Preach,” the single also has a great placement on Beyoncé’s ongoing Formation World Tour, which finds the Florida native performing as part of DJ Khaled’s opening set. Jones is also signed to Khaled’s We the Best label. Considering the amount of record spins it’s been getting within and outside the airwaves, Kent’s Top 10 hit is only the beginning.
"I’m very musically inclined," Jones, who also happens to be a talented jazz musician, tells REVOLT. Speaking on the very record that has all the makings of a summer '16 takeover, the Florida native credits his versatility behind the boards and in the booth. "I have multiple styles, so it’s more so taking the influence of those [before me], embodying their presence and channeling it through my own wave," he adds. Much of this is proven on "Don’t Mind," a song that manages to appeal to so many different demographics in one song.
In the words of his We The Best captain, for Kent Jones, it’s time now to "Bless up."
