Along with Chance the Rapper, Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment decided to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Surf, which originally arrived on May 28, 2015, with a sonic mix of unused material from the album’s recording sessions. Compiling it all into a funky, jazzy, melodic 10-minute mix (nearly 11-minutes), the musical squad present “The First Time.”

“This is a collection of unused Surf pieces, an ode to the era,” Donnie Trumpet wrote on the song’s SoundCloud description. “Thank you to everyone who’s still listening and growing with the music.”
