Sharon Jones Documentary Heading To Movie Theaters

Film follows soul singer's career & cancer battle.

Soul singer Sharon Jones has nabbed her own documentary, and the film just secured theatrical, digital, and on-demand releases, according to a press release.

The Barbara Kopple-directed doc, titled Miss Sharon Jones!, follows the singer and her band the Dap-Kings during the year in which the frontwoman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while on the brink of releasing a new album and embarking on a tour.

Though surgery and chemotherapy delayed the release of Give The People What They Want, the album would go on to receive the 2014 Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.

At the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Jones revealed that her cancer had returned, but added that the band would continue to tour, saying, "I'm going to do what I have to do. I'm going to sing.”

Miss Sharon Jones! will begin showing in theaters July 29.
