Born in Dolton, Illinois in 1993, L.A. VanGogh began writing songs at the age of six. With an affinity for writing poems, he then got his first poem published at the age of 13. Around this time, L.A. also was introduced to lyrical mastermind Lupe Fiasco and began to stray away from hashtag flow-like punchlines and decided to rap with a purpose.
"My content in its entirety deals with self acceptance and exploring one's identity," he explained. "I am my own test subject. I talk about my insecurities, my escapades, my triumphs, my downfalls, my vulnerabilities, my experiences with suicide attempts, etc."
In the summer of 2015, L.A. VanGogh released his debut mixtape, The Vinyl, a 15 -track collection full of rich storytelling, captivating melodies and addictive hooks, which he wrote, recorded and produced on his own. Since then, he's released the first single, "Hold It Down," off his upcoming project called The Demo and teamed up with producer AmbI Lyrics as production duo, safeNsound, and the pair are also working on their debut EP, safeNsound presents L.A. VanGogh.
