Desiigner’s buoyant smash single “Panda” is No. 1 in the country, which now dethrones Rihanna’s nine-week run of “Work” on the Billboard Hot 100. Released on the G.O.O.D. Music imprint, alongside Kanye West’s latest chart-topping LP TLOP, spends a second week atop the Streaming Songs chart, with 35 million overall U.S. streams.
It’s a massive feat for the Brooklyn rapper, whose track has steadily been climbing the charts for weeks despite not even having a video out yet. Desiigner is also the first American artist to break the streak of a 41-week stint for foreign-born singers dominating the No. 1 spot, and it being a rap song at that. He is also the first rapper to hit No.1 with a debut chart entry since Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” back in 2014 and the youngest artist since Lorde’s “Royals” back in 2013.
With the adjustment, Rihanna falls to No.4, Drake’s “One Dance” also takes a huge jump from the No.13 into the top 10 at the No.3 spot, with Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibzia” and Fifth Harmony and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Work From Home” rounding out the rest of the top slots.
