Samsung, Google and Spotify Reportedly Interested In Tidal

Jay Z & Co.'s streaming service could be acquired.

According to the New York Post, Samsung is in talks with Jay Z and his investors to buy Tidal. However, in a twist, Samsung isn’t the only company interested in buying the streaming service, both Google and Spotify have expressed interest as well in different capacities.

Jay Z originally bought Tidal for $56 million through Aspiro, a media technology company. Both Google and Spotify believe that while Tidal is struggling, if they buy the streaming service it will support their own digital music services.

It is still unclear what Jay Z’s involvement would be if he should decide to sell Tidal to Samsung, but he’s certainly no stranger to working with the mega tech company. In 2013, Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album went platinum before its retail release. Jay cut a deal with Samsung that allowed all users across the globe to purchase the album on pre-sale, ultimately selling 1 million copies.

Many feel that Tidal needs a new home to stay alive and even though nothing has been confirmed, all we can do is wait and see what Hov’s decision will be.
