Back in May, Chance the Rapper sat down with Beats 1 Radio's Zane Lowe and revealed that Big Sean, J. Cole and Jeremih had all recorded music for his latest album Coloring Book, but that none of the songs had been cleared by their respective labels.
Then, what could have been one of the cutting room-floor creations surfaced in a leaked track titled "Living Single."
Unfortunately, the song was soon confirmed by both Chance and Sean to have been released without authorization—it was intended from Sean's upcoming album—and they both sounded pretty bummed about it.
I didn't release a new song, one of my songs were leaked. Idk how to explain to you how that feels, but I doesn't feel good.— The Big Day out now (@chancetherapper) July 20, 2016
Damn "Living Single" was actually something I was workin on for my album, sucks when people leak something not ready n spoil 4 da listeners— Sean Don (@BigSean) July 20, 2016
Shortly after, it was pulled from the internet.
But now, as a "Thank You" to fans for getting his new single "Bounce Back" on the Billboard charts, Sean has dropped the official version of the collabo.
Man #BounceBack just entered Top40 on Hot100, vid dropped this week n I just gotta say thankyou for that, let's keep it up! We been working!— Sean Don (@BigSean) December 17, 2016
None of this is promised, but y'all keep blessing me!— Sean Don (@BigSean) December 17, 2016
On the track, which Smino seems to have been removed from, Sean and Chano take turns ruminating on ex-girlfriends, long-distance relationships, and former f—k buddies. But, as the title hints, this song gives nod to the '90s hit show of the same name and, on its chorus, Jeremih revamps the theme song's lyrics to lead listeners to believe that they're all actually ready to settle down: "In this crazy kind of world/ I'm glad I've got my girl." Especially after Chano spits: "Ain't a single living thing that likes living single."
The song makes use of the era's neo-soul sounds too as the Cam O'bi-produced beat is all ticking brass percussion and loungey keyboard chords.
