RZA, Snoop Dogg, and Common have signed up to take their talents to Springfield for a hip-hop homage to "The Great Gatsby."
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the episode, called "The Great Phatsby," is set to premiere in January and will feature the hip-hop stars playing themselves in a hip-hop themed special based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel. "Empire" and "Hidden Figures" star Taraji P. Henson, as well as with Keegan-Michael Key will also appear in the special. The episode plot will feature Mr. Burns' relationship with a rap mogul by the name of Jay G (ha), who sends Burns into bankruptcy and assumes command of the nuclear plant.
"Empire" music producer Jim Beanz created original hip-hop songs for the episode, which will mark "The Simpsons"' first-ever hourlong special.
"We wanted the Mt. Rushmore of rap, and we got it," said Simpsons producer Dan Greaney to EW. "They represent different moods and different aspects of the history of hip-hop."
The two-part episode, which airs as an hour, is slated to air in January.
UPDATE: The first trailer for the upcoming episode is now available. The hourlong special, titled "The Great Phatsby" airs January 15th.
