In advance of her upcoming sophomore studio LP Joyride, Tinashe dropped a 15-track joint on Friday titled Nightride and accompanied the project with a video. In the six-minute visual, Tinashe expresses herself through varied scenes of visually stunning cinematography, wearing smeared lipstick, being trapped inside a plastic bag, and, yes, even being in a parking lot.

Nightride opens with a perplexed Tinashe discussing her trials of feeling the need to appease people and how the world can equate to a “f-cked-up, twisted journey.” The next scene shows a throwback, distorted video of the singer as a child singing “get me out of here” with a puppet doll. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think Tinashe is telling us she may be done with her polished industry image and may want to venture to something a bit more risqué and freeing. The video is creative and serves as a shorter successor to the visual genius that was Beyoncé’s Lemonade.

On Twitter in a handwritten note the singer said, “Nightride is my newest full-length project. I have been working on it quietly for nearly two years, alongside Joyride. This is the beginning of the journey. One piece of the puzzle that makes me who I am both as an artist and as a human.”
