Kanye West says he’ll boycott the Grammys if Frank Ocean isn’t nominated

“I’ll tell you this right now: If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys,” Yeezy said onstage.

Kanye West stays trying to boycott The Grammys.

During his Saint Pablo Tour stop in Oakland on Saturday night, West promised to boycott the 2017 Grammys if Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Endless aren’t nominated. Last week, reports surfaced that Ocean’s camp may have intentionally missed the submission deadline for consideration.

“The album I listen to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album,” West told the audience, “I’ll tell you this right now: If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys.”

The 39-year-old rapper has used his Saint Pablo Tour to sound off on issues close to him including ghostwriting allegations, artists imitating his floating stage and his relationship with Jay Z. “As artists, we have to come together to fight the bullshit,” West continued on Saturday.

Back in August, West pushed to get Ocean more radio play by voicing his support on Twitter, "Me and Drake both listen to Frank. Radio has to support amazing artists."

"Every station across the globe: [iHeart]. Clear Channel local stations. Satellite. Every station," he continued. "This will make the world better. If anyone at radio really loves music. Come together and pick your favorite Frank Ocean song and play it at least 10 times a day."

As heartwarming as the defense of his good friend and fellow artist may be, this is hardly the first time West has threatened to boycott the awards ceremony. He often cites the lack of the academy’s lack of recognition for black musicians and argues that rap artists are overlooked in major categories.

After all, Yeezy keeps his 21 Grammy Awards tucked away in a sock drawer in his laundry room, so don’t expect him to hit the red carpet when the 59th annual Grammy Awards air next year on February 12.
