'The Breaks' Takes It Back To Hip-Hop's 90s Heyday

Wood Harris and company talk about their new VH1 movie.

There's been a lot of hip-hop on the big and small screens in the past year, with Fox's Empire and "Straight Outta Compton." Both were successful by just about any measure; Empire was the biggest new broadcast drama in years and "SOC" scored a slew of nominations.

But, as with any rap related project, there's always the matter of authenticity. Meanwhile, Empire is over the top and "SOC" was as much about Death Row as it was about Dr. Dre and company. How about a project that's both?

Well, VH1's The Breaks is certainly squared with the latter. The story is rooted in early '90s hip-hop lore, based on Dan Charnas' "The Big Payback" book. Is it entertaining? Tune in tonight (January 4) at 9:00 p.m. ET for the premiere of the movie.
